I'll be the first to admit that mid century modern furniture isn't typically something I gravitate towards when picking pieces for the shop. I have a couple pieces in my home that might fall in this category, but for the most part, it's a look I tend to overlook. So, when my friend (and probably #1 RDFCo. customer. I think she has more RDFCo. pieces in her home than I do!), Jessica, asked if I could redo some mid century furniture for her, I knew I would have to step out of my usual "I heart chippy" style. She didn't want something too trendy, as these are pieces that can hopefully stay with her daughter for years to come.
Here's what I started off with:
I gave the entire piece a light sanding before applying Java Gel Stain from General Finishes. Jessica didn't want a super dark appearance, so I just used two coats. The drawers received several coats (honestly, I lost count) of General Finishes Snow White and the handles were spray painted gold. I absolutely adore the finished product!
The bookshelf had been a roadside castoff years ago and was painted to match.
These pieces might just have changed the way I pick for items in the shop. I'm always amazed by what a couple coats of paint can do, and in this case, completely transform cast-off pieces of furniture.
Huge thanks to Jessica & Travis for trusting us with their projects! If you have a piece of furniture that could use a facelift, we frequently do custom work! Shoot me an email at email@example.com to get started.
