Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a planner. I love to make lists and goals and love it even more when I can cross something off that I've accomplished. For example, currently I have 5 (ok...maybe 6) lists I'm working on. Is this a healthy or productive way to live? Probably not, but it works for me.
One of my goals I set for 2015 was to paint more furniture and I'm happy to report that I hit it out of the park. (My goal of getting up at 6 a.m. every day is another story). I painted a record number (for me anyway) of pieces this year. Here are my top three faves:
I fell in love with Typewriter from Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint this year. This antique china cabinet had some wood that was still in great shape, so by leaving that natural, it really showcased the black. I wet sanded this with hemp oil (my favorite way to finish a milk painted piece), which also brought out the richness of this color. I'll be sharing a tutorial on how to wet sand in the coming weeks!
One color I've never been a fan of is Flow Blue from MMSMP. I love all of the other blues, but had never painted a piece in Flow Blue. So, I picked the biggest unfinished piece I had and gave it a Flow Blue makeover. It was stunning! (These pics don't do it justice). It only lasted a few days in the shop before it was snatched up. This piece also got a hemp oil finish.
This dresser in Marzipan was also one of my faves. I typically shy away from whites and creams because they take so many coats. Marzipan, from Miss Mustard Seed's new European line, covers really well. It's my go-to when I'm wanting to use a neutral color. The drawers on this piece had a beautiful wood grain, so I left those untouched.
And, here's just a sampling of what went out the door this year. 2015 was a great year at the shop and I can't wait to see what 2016 brings! Cheers!
